Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. John Davies, Ambassador of South Africa to Jordan and Iraq, and his delegation.

Mr. Davies expressed happiness with his first visit to the Kurdistan Region, and appreciation of the Peshmerga in advancing the fight against terrorism.

Ambassador Davies noted the Kurdistan Region’s achievement in maintaining security in the Region. He also valued the role of the KRG in effectively administering the Region despite severe financial difficulties. 

Noting significant opportunity for investment, Ambassador Davies said he would encourage South African investors to consider the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani stated that the Kurdistan Region desires to develop relations with the international community and looks forward to developing relations with South Africa.

Prime Minister Barzani briefed the South African delegation on the current situation in Iraq and Kurdistan region. The two sides also discussed the latest regional developments, including the military campaign against ISIS.
