Prime Minister Barzani meets a senior Iraqi delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, received in Erbil a senior Iraqi federal government delegation, which included the Ministers of Oil, Electricity, Agriculture, Education, as well as the Chairman of the Federal Board of Supreme Audit and Deputy Minister of Oil.

In the meeting, attended also by the KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Prime Minister Barzani congratulated the peoples of Iraq on the liberation of Mosul and reiterated the need for all parties to cooperate in the post ISIS era to reconstruct liberated areas and facilitate the return of internally displaced persons, IDPs, to their homes.

The two sides discussed the relations between the KRG and the Iraqi Federal Government in the post ISIS era, particularly in the areas devastated by war against terrorism and now need to be reconstructed. Prime Minister Barzani stated that the KRG is ready to support the reconstruction process in the liberated areas with the same vigor as it opened its doors in the past to a large number of IDPs, who were fleeing ISIS persecution.

In the meeting, the two sides expressed their willingness to open a new chapter in their relations and continue dialogue to address unresolved issues. They discussed the formation of a joint committee to promote and restructure coordination between Baghdad and Erbil in the sectors of oil and electricity, that would take the interests of all the peoples of Iraq into account.

The meeting was also attended by the KRG Ministers for Natural Resources, Planning, Education, KRG Spokesperson as well as the acting Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, deputy Minister of Electricity and Secretary of the Council of Ministers.
